Colorado confirms
Stepan although promising we believe his game is limited and always garners big interest on the trade front. It may be something we regret one day but right now we're beaming at what we received. There's Jack Jonhson's everywhere, we just felt his defensive lapses has caused our +/- to balloon and his offensive productivity wasn't enough to keep him. To get Kevin Shattenkirk is a move we couldn't pass up. A 25 year old dman with a plus skill set across the board. Stephan DeCosta although raw and not a great skater his offensive upside was worth the risk. Alex Guptill adds some legit talent to my franchise's very weak farm team.
Best of Luck Buffalo

Buffalo makes this trade to get a top-tier centre in the league...while he's not Crosby-esque elite, he is a legit #1 centre with PP and SH time and fairly large upside. A young, productive centre is very tough to acquire in this league, partly because there aren't many that produce this much at this young of age, and partly because you animals hoard them all While Shattenkirk is a great dman, the downgrade to Johnson is not significant in our format, as opposed to roto. I lose approximately less-than one point each week (50 points vs 35 points....15 points differential) and a minus-1 each week for the step-down to Johnson. I can make up that difference with Stepan and whoever he replaces from my prospects in my lineup. While I lose a soon-to-be elite dman, that was the price for a young centre with upside. Da Costa is promising, as is Guptill, but they aren't helping me this year. Buffalo is very happy with this trade. Solid trade for both sides.

Not a fan of this deal for COL but if I don't have to listen to BUF tell me how great DaCosta is anymore... well the deal is worth it!

love reading the replies but I like when statements are backed up. Why is Stepan the best player in the deal? Shats a dman is on just about the same pace pt wise and other numbers are better. They've been at it roughly the same time. No denying Stepan wins the FO battle. He's been in the league 4 years now and is the same player he was when he started. IMO opinion he is what he is a 50-60 pt C on a solid year. He does everything well nothing great. I would take the 50 pt dman everytime, just my opinion. The distance between Johnson and Shattenkirk is far greater than the distance between Stepan and Shats. I wouldve taken Shats straight for Stepan. Once agin just my opinion. I find in fantasy leagues Stepan has this incredibly high value, not quit sure why maybe its his age. Room to grow? Who knows but my eyes already tell me what he is.
Curious to why Guptill and DaCosta have no value?

Mike, here is my view of the deal with a bit of an explanation.
I would view Stepan for Shat straight up a fair deal and depending indivual team needs some my value Stepan more and some may value Shat more.
For me Stepan is a 23 year old #1 centre who does well in a number of our scoring cats. Last year he was almost a ppg player and at his age I feel there is potential to be more than a 50-60 pt player.
I guess I just felt that JJ didn't need to be added to the deal. JJ has a number of issues like +/- but he can certainly can put up 30-40 pts a year and chip in on the pp.
For me the prospects added to the deal did not warrant the addition of JJ. They do however add nice depth to your farm system.
Sorry for being so short with the initial review. I think that Shat is a great addition to your roster.

If it makes you feel better, my old guy traded Backes, P Kane and Tuuku Rask in the same day LOL
There's a reason that some teams in here are really, really bad. We seem to have a better group of managers now, so hopefully we get parity over time, although it's gonna take a long, long while...

oh come on dave that rask deal was awesome for both sides (okay maybe more for mine)... the downside of that trade was that the previous GM then traded steve mason for nothing. now at that time it wasn't a big deal but looking back ouchy.. that's where your goalie troubles started..

The subsequent trade made it worse, yes. But trading Rask? That's just silly.

It does make me feel a little better, there's a zero % chance of me ever getting Stepan back for anything less than Hall + Toews...

Well Kris I would say that the COL franchise owes BUF no favors as the deal was a joke.
Let this be a nice history lesson for the COL franchise and thank goodness the new GM is taking things in the right direction.
