Gave up some promising youth here, but this deal is about aquiring a true #1 goaltender. also gaining a few faceoffs on my wing

Winnipeg accepts and is taking a huge gamble with the rebuild, hoping that the 3 young studs become stars.

I have no issue with the deal. PIT traded MAF to WPG for Granlund and Grigo last year. This package is in the same ballpark. To me the deal hinges on Khudobin.
Additionally, I had a very similar package on the table for MAF so I know WPG was actively shopping for the best deal.

I think im.just jealous that I shouldve pursued MAF more aggressively over Miller. All good tho. Looking fwd to Wpg putting the pieces of the puzzle together. Log jam of goalies in TOR. Something has to give. Trade deadline should be fun as always

Additionally, I had a very similar package on the table for MAF so I know WPG was actively shopping for the best deal. I traded Fleury when there was serious question of his mental state, after Vokoun was outplaying him which was BEFORE Vokoun went down, so i disagree from a value perspective. Furthermore, based on Fleury discussions I just had with Wpg and considering what was on the table, i am surprised he didn't do better, thus my "indeed" remark. Regardless, to each his own. Good luck to both and everyone else dealing as the deadline approaches. Sometimes, though, the best deal may be no deal...just something for all to consider as the trade talk intensifies!

ok i think i need to respond to the debate and comments, which i appreciate, but would like to make a comment on this particular transaction. Especially with the RISK/REWARD involved with this deal
Myers-RISK very high, but if you have followed the Sabres since the coaching change Myers has looked like a different player than the one that has disappointed since his rookie season. he appear to be playing with higher confidence and doesnt appear to be in the wrong position constantly now. he will now jump into the play and his offensive numbers are beginning to appear a bit more than in the recent past. His RISK is high if he doesnt not continue to progress and play with confidence, im hoping Nolan is signed long term, i think it will be a positive for Myers going forward. Bennett-a bit humorous, i have tried to trade for him for a while, every time I made an inquiry, his price was very high, i believe toronto paid a decent price for him as well. I am believer, i am a Pens homer. I feel he will be awesome if he get the playing time with Malkin and or Crosby he will live up to his hype. RISK, high, because he hasnt done it yet and has been nicked up a lot since he has gotten to the NHL, REWARD, could be huge. Khudobin-definitely the wildcard, but if you believe he has proven he can be a starter, (I do) then Carolina has a decision to make, make him your starter and resign him (contract expiring) and dump Ward. Or, be willing to lose him to free agency, he wil probably wind up on a team looking for a starter or willing to let someone challenge for a starting job. RISK, fairly high, who knows what the hell Carolina is going to do, i feel a decent gamble. REWARD, if he can be good for an entire season like he has in the abbreviated term, then i am in good shape.
Fleury-Like i said, i am a homer, but i still dont have confidence in him being the long term guy here. With Vokoun coming back and possible competition in his mind, will he crumble? Will he crap the bed in playoffs and crumble again? Who knows? Then what is his value worth? RISK, huge, he could be back and a hero in the playoffs and carve out a tremendous career going forward, or, he could blow up in the playoffs and most certainly will not get a huge contract from the Pens going forward. They have to much young talent and too many opportunities to move forward to deal with a "fragile" goalie. I believe this playoff run is very important for his career.
Did i give up to much, hmmnnn, maybe, did i consider the ramifications of the risk/reward scenario of keeping Fleury and helping the rebuild or keeping him for great return. i had 5 different offer, not one had a huge star in it (IMO only), i did ask for "stars" but the answer was the same. I asked myself, am i going to compete this year or next,NO! Had i commited to a long term rebuild, YES! so i weighed my options and offers and decided i was ok with the return i got. This is the type of deal that makes it fun, taking a huge risk that will ultimately make me look like a dumb ass, or a smart ass! Taking chances are part of life, thankfully, this one doesnt pay my mortgage or pay my kids tuition to college. this decision is a calculated risk that i hope works out long term for me because i know it makes Toronto much stronger in the short term. Thanks for the debate and comments, i always love different opinions and insights. Hell i ask for them all the time as all of you know. haha.

If you got 5 offers, and that was the best one, then that's just where the market is at...
If Fleury re-signs in Pit, this deal probably doesn't look great. But I'm with you, there is no guarantee he'll be there beyond this contract...

good talks here. I am not a fleury owner bc I never trust him. he has 2 extremes and its hard to say who shows up. yes this season he is doing better but who knows. What I would have liked to see is you getting markstrom here not the goalie you got. bc I personally feel ward is the guy in Carolina and there are only so many starting jobs out there. but who knows talk of expansion and 2 new teams coming in could changeeverything in a year or 2. the only thing is the age factor. Khudobin is 27 and fleury is 29. not much of a change. but like you said who knows risk/reward type deal here should be interesting to see how it plays out.

gotta add to the khudobin comment, agreed he is 27 but hasnt proven to be the head case that fleury has been to date. He is still esstiantially a rookie and hhopefully wont develop the same mental issues. i kind of agree with chicago, i did ask originally for markstrom but toronto wanted to keep him, i thought about holding out for him but the more i thought about it i became a little nervous about his play so far and how fla has handled him. was bringing in thomas the right thing to do at a time that you lead people to believe was the dawning of a new era in fla with markstrom?? I like harding but I have a family memeber with MS and have an idea how hard it is to control that disease with meds.

This is a great return for MAF in my opinion. Khudobin is legit, personally I think he is on par with Fluery. Right now he has less of a track record and some are sceptical but that will change soon.
