Well, here's the lowdown. I came to the realization that because of my injuries and my young guys not developing as fast as I had hoped that I wasn't going anywhere this year. No chance. I have a nice young core in place and have quite a few top prospects such as Mikael Granlund, Mikhail Grigorenko, etc. coming through the pipeline. I'll also have a top-5 pick because of my struggles.
In this trade I get much younger and get some pieces to help build towards the future when I'm a contender in a year or two. I love, love, love Galchenyuk's upside and when you add him with Ryan O'Reilly, Travis Zajac, Patrick Sharp and have Grigorenko, Granlund and now Holland close to if not ready to make an impact in the NHL, I look set at the center position for a long time.
I also get Steve Downie to help give me some immediate help on the wing next year. Matt Peumpel is a very good goal-scoring winger and I look forward to his production in a couple years.
As for New York, their record is very poor but the last couple weeks they've added a lot of pieces that will ensure they're contenders next year and beyond. New York already had Ryan Getzlaf and now he has the other big piece of the Ducks top line. Eric Locke is having a helluva season in the OHL and I'd be stunned if he's not drafted as a 2nd year eligible this year (in real life). Igor Bobkov is a solid prospect and is a Duck so that was a nice bonus for Devon as well. As for the 5th rounder, I have a ton of picks and won't be able to use them all so I gave Devon, who like myself loves drafting prospects, another top-100 pick to use. It may not seem like much, but Devon's probably pretty confident he can get a nice prospect with it.
