Montreal trades:
Clarke MacArthur Tomas Kaberle Devante Smith-Pelly Jon Merrill
to Nashville for:
Duncan Keith Paul Martin Aaron Palushaj Aaron Rensfeldt
Reasoning: Not sure how this can't be fair. Montreal needed help on D. Keith is awesome and Martin will pick up his game with Crosby back. Palushaj and Rensfeldt have a pretty good upside. Nashville is liking a youth movement. Smith-Pelly and Merrill have have the potential to be beasts. MacArthur is a solid young winger (potentially 60 points) and young and Kaberle is a solid Dman (in the past, albeit not right now, but will pick it up).
Breakdown:
Merrill + Smith-Pelly > Palushaj + Rensfeldt Keith > Kaberle MacArthur > Martin
Think it's a good balance for needs.

Accept
I have been building a strong core on the blueline in order to make Keith expendable for help on the W.
In this trade I get help on the W now with MacArthur and the key to this deal was the addition of the 19 year old Smith-Pelly on the W for the future.
Kaberle for Martin is a bit of a wash with better upside in Kaberle possibly...
Merrill on D is a guy I actually like a lot and if he can clean up his act a bit should be a mainstay on the NJD blueline in the near future. For Merrill I tossed back Palushaj and Rensfeldt just to make everything even out.

I really tried to bash this deal, out of frustration for yesterday...lol... but ultimately, this is solid deal; very even.
At first Glance, it kind of look slopsided to NSH's favor, but if you really look at what is changing sides, this is a well structured, balanced deal.

If Kaberle keeps pooping the bed, then I think this is even, but if he steps up and starts producing, then I say lopsided...

I have no use for Kaberle. No faith. Only guy I really hated giving up was Merrill.
I'm ok with it and appreciate the other GM analysis.

Yeah, not a Kaberle fan here either, and I don't really expect him to play any better, and therefore I think it's an even trade... If he does though, NSH wins it...

I agree. But it's also kinda funny to read some comments, not specifically on this trade so no offense or anything. I send out a decent deal involving Kaberle and I get responses like "Kaberle sucks" and "I would never take Kaberle". When I trade him in a deal, it's total opposite statements, like "whoa, if he picks it up, NSH wins" and "lopsided when Kaberle picks it up". Not really a good comparison since it's different GMs saying these things (for the most part), just funny to read some comments.
A wise man once said, the team who gets the best player wins. Keith is the best player, albeit that MacArthur could put up similar stats, but I have about 8 wingers like that. Keith is a top dman in this league and a 40-50 point winger is fairly easy to get.
Not saying I won the trade. In the future, I may lose it if Merrill and Pelly pan out, but it meets the needs of both teams, since Nashville has a crop of young guns and I need Dmen. I like having Keith and Weber on the back end, arguably 2 of the top 5 dmen in the league.
Whoa. didn't mean to rant....haha. Got carried away a little. Thanks for all comments. Feel free to keep going or to bash me or NSH privately. ;D

haha that's cool, I know it can weird taking all the criticisms from so many different sources for trades... I stick by what I said, if Kaberle picks it up NSH wins the trades, but from your end it's still a risk I would take, I think it was a good trade both ways...

At first glance this seems a little off, but after reading the rationale and thinking it through, it's cool. There are always variables at play, upside, downside, etc. in. trade, and this one has enough of its own.

There are always variables at play, upside, downside, etc. in. trade, and this one has enough of its own. What's off about it? Prospects (for the most part) are a complete guessing game. 8 years ago, people would of traded away the Sedins for grip tape and a half eaten bag of doritos. Also, the year that Daigle was drafted, I'm sure in a league like this, people would of traded the farm to get that pick or him. Losing Merrill sucks because I'm a fan. Smith-Pelly....might be good, might not be. Same goes for the 2 guys guys I got. Palushaj has the upside of a good scorer and he's getting the experience in the bigs now. Take the uncertainty of prospects out then the trade boils down to Keith and Martin for Kaberle and MacArthur. Doesn't seem that crazy to me. If people say they would of offered more or a better deal, then bring it on. Not saying that's what you're doing.....just sayin'

First glance it "seemed" off, but looking at all of the pieces and reading the explanation really codifies any doubts into a cohesive affirmation. It's solid.

It's solid. i had the same feeling at first glances... feels like MTL is loosing some good prospects for Keith a 3 nobodies... but when you read the thinking behind the trade, it all comes together. Like i said earlier, i love this deal, but only after a 2nd glance...
