Tentative trade:
PITTSBURGH sends:
W - C.Atkinson G - A.Raanta D - Y.Weber 2nd ('15) - PIT
CHICAGO sends:
W - D.Bowman G - D.Kuemper D - J.Liles
Pittsburgh to confirm.
I am not feeling well tonight, so I will offer up a rationale tomorrow or later this evening.

PITTSBURGH accepts. Well, I didn't want to give up any scoring but you have to give to get. A few GMs know that I've been looking to add a tender. Yes, I give up Raanta as well, but I feel Kuemper's play can no longer be ignored. After last week's matchu up, where Howard's injury single-handedly caused a great fall, I had enough. The deal is basically about Chi getting a winger and me a tender, IMO. Maybe Raanta becomes something and maybe Bowman does as well. Who knows?

With respect to this deal, I feel like I "sold" Kuemper at the price of a starting goalie - which he definitely is right now. But my concern has always been...what is the long term plan in Minnesota? Harding is signed for another year, and Backstrom for another two years. Neither of those guys has been able to stay healthy this year, but if they do get healthy next year, what sort of return would there be on Kuemper? Probably not a young, solid back-up G, top six forward, and 2nd round pick in a strong draft year. There is also the possibility that Backstrom gets bought out, and Minnesota goes the UFA route in the off season (Hiller, Miller, Halak, etc.). Again, if something like that happens, the value of Kuemper plummets, IMO. He's been a starter for the last few weeks, and I just felt I should take a chance and capitalize on the value he has created. With regards to goalie starts, as mentioned by David, I have picked up Stalock....so I now have three very solid backups (Stalock, Lehner, Raanta). While I won't make two starts every week, I should get some. And there is no guarantee that I'd make the 2 starts with Kuemper next year either. All my deals are looking at a two-to-three year window ahead, and by that time, I'm confident Lehner will be a starting goalie, and Stalock, Raanta (and hopefully Allen) will keep me quasi-competitive at goal. At least I know I can't do any worse at the position, lol.
I wish Ian luck in the playoffs.
