Montreal does this to accelerate the rebuild. While both guys don't really fit the age of my core group, they do have a bunch of years left offering solid production. With Price back healthy, and adding 2 ready-to-play prospects at the draft, Montreal feels ready to step back into the playoff picture.

As stated in my block, I'm moving older pieces to try and turn this around. I'm sure Yandles signing this week helped this trade along, but he's a guy I've been shopping for some time now.

Getting two more picks in the first two rounds should help. Carrick should play a top four role for the up and coming Leafs and Petan can play ring or center. Hard not to like the surrounding cast he has to play with in Winnipeg.This trade also opens up two roster spots for me to promote a couple guys in my minors who are getting close to their promotion number.
